New Tracks...

The east side of the Vancouver, Wash. Amtrak station shows the new alignment of the BNSF Fallbridge Sub. The two main tracks were moved closer to the building, and this resulted in the removal of the existing platform and the lawn.

A new platform was built on the east side of the Hill St. crossing, adjacent to the BNSF team tracks. It is used by #27/28, the Portland section of the "Empire Builder".

This is one of several projects that have significantly changed the Vancouver track complex.

A new main track off the Fallbridge Sub, just east of the 8th Street interlocking, will allow trains off the Sub to directly enter the Port of Vancouver. This will eliminate the need for east-west trains to cross the north-south mains at Vancouver Center. This new track uses a concrete trench to pass underneath the north-south mains at the northern approach to the Columbia River drawbridge.

A new bypass main to the east of the Vancouver yard will allow trains to come off and on the north-south Seattle Sub on and off the east-west Fallbridge Sub without having to cross over at Vancouver Center. The bypass rejoins the existing main north of the 39th Avenue overpass.
