Whistling Through Woodburn

Amtrak "Coast Starlight" #11 is on its way from Seattle to Los Angeles as it highballs through Woodburn, Ore. The town is about 17 miles north of Salem on UP's former Southern Pacific Portland-Eugene Brooklyn Sub.

P42-9DC #132 leads F59PHI #467 in "Cascades" colors. Amtrak often adds its "Cascades" power to this train when the units go to Los Angeles for maintenance work.

Woodburn was also an Amtrak stop for several years in the early 1980s as part of the short-lived "Willamette Valley" service between Portland and Eugene.
