Substitute Cab Car...

Amtrak P32-8BWH #507 is substituting for the normal NPCU on "Cascades" #500 at Chehalis, Wash. on the train's run from Eugene, Ore. to Seattle.

The normal "Cascades" trainset includes an NPCU converted from an F40PH on one end and a P42-9DC or F59PHI on the other end for power.

The P32s, a passenger variation of General Electric's B40-8W, were once standard power in the Pacific Northwest as part of the locomotive pool for the Seattle-Los Angeles "Coast Starlight".

The 20-year-old units remain on the Amtrak roster as protection power and as switchers, and will occasionally show up as substitutes on the TALGO sets.
