Back to the Yard

NCDOT coach "Long Leaf Pine" has its hostler's light lit as "Piedmont" #74 returns to the coach yard after completing its run from Charlotte to Raleigh.

The train is crossing Cabarrus Street and backing up the connecting track from the NS Goldsboro line onto the CSX, former SAL main line. It will tie up at the NCDOT facility adjacent to the former SAL depot and the CSX Capital Yard on the north side of downtown.

The "Long Leaf Pine" was originally built by Pullman-Standard in 1965 for the Kansas City Southern. It was one of the last intercity passenger cars built in the U.S. prior to the creation of Amtrak.
