Let's Meet Downtown...

Amtrak and Norfolk southern meet in downtown Raleigh, NC as an NS freight eases off the connecting track from Southern Junction onto the NS line to Goldsboro.

The westbound "Carolinian" #79 is almost loaded at the Raleigh depot as NS C40-9Ws #8926 and #8946 lead a train of mostly covered hoppers onto the main.

The NS train originated in the former Norfolk Southern Railroad yard northeast of downtown and held at the junction for the "Carolinian" to clear the line from Selma, where it had entered the NS after coming off the CSX, former ACL "A" line.

The building in the background is the former Dillon Supply warehouse, and is slated to become Raleigh's new passenger depot after an intensive rebuilding. It sits inside the wye between the CSX and NS lines.
