Back From the Boneyard

Amtrak P40 #835 is the trailing unit on "Silver Star" #92 as it awaits departure at the Amtrak depot in Raleigh, NC.

It is one of Amtrak's first GE "Genesis" diesels built in the early 1990s, and had recently emerged from storage at the Beech Grove shops in Indianapolis, its rehabilitation paid for by federal stimulus funds.

This same infusion of federal funding also enabled Amtrak to return 60 Amfleet and 21 Superliner and Viewliner cars to service, some of them after years in the dead line.
