Depot of the Future???

This rough-looking plot of land adjacent to the Boylan Street bridge in Raleigh, NC was proposed to become one of the centerpieces of the proposed high speed rail link across North Carolina -- a new intermodal depot for the Raleigh metropolitan area.

The proposed depot would, according to local reports, serve both fast intercity trains and regional rail long espoused by Raleigh-area transit advocates and officials.

The location is at the junction of the CSX, former SAL main line and the NS, former SOU Greensboro-Goldsboro line on the southwest side of downtown Raleigh.

Another plot of land, behind the tree line at the right of the photo, was subsequently selected. The site, which sits inside the wye between the the CSX and NS lines, includes an old warehouse that, once refurbished, will become the city's new depot.
