654, 245, 943 They've been cleaned, oiled, and greased. Their brake shoes have been inspected and replaced as required - along with the rest of the running gear - by the Boston shop forces. Now the engines are ready to go back to work. Perhaps some wheels needed truing, or even replacement. Perhaps an entire truck needed to be replaced. If damage or wear-and-tear was serious enough, perhaps the 245 will be sent to New Haven where there was a drop table in 2000 - but if it were really bad, it would be tacked onto No. 449 and dropped off at Amtrak's Beech Grove heavy maintenance facility, if the engine could be safely towed. Otherwise, it would get into a hospital train somewhere to get to Indiana. The electrics would go to New Haven or else on to the Bear Shops in Delaware.
