LA&L #38 gets ready to workIn the summer of 1975, short line Livonia, Avon, & Lakeville (formed in 1964 from abandoned EL lines south of Rochester NY) used an ex-Huntington & Broad Top 2-8-0 in addition to its first diesel, an Alco RS1, to haul tank cars of corn syrup in interchange from EL. Apparently within a year of this capture at Lakeville NY, #38, was stored due to needing major repairs but it survives today on the Everett RR awaiting restoration. Meanwhile LA&L has expanded over the years acquiring WNY&P and Bath & Hammondsport RRs and still relies heavily on Alco diesel power.
