Big Dome In The Gorge

Mount Hood Railroad #513 "Columbia View" shows off its newest paint scheme as it awaits its next call to duty. The car had worn the "McKinley Explorer" colors of previous owner Holland America Westours when purchased by MHRR owner Iowa Pacific Holdings.

The 1954-vintage dome Budd dome lounge is on its fifth owner: after original owner Santa Fe gave up passenger service to Amtrak in 1971, the car subsequently went to Auto-Train, the New York, Susquehanna & Western and Holland America Westours before landing in the Iowa Pacific stable.

The car normally runs on the railroad's seasonal excursion trains out of Hood River, Ore. Mount Hood also operates a seasonal dinner train.
