Union Pacific 4-8-4 #844 thunders past the interlocking box at CP Troutdale, 15 miles east of Portland, Ore., as it heads east with the "Portland Rose" special.

Auxiliary tender #814 "Joe Jordan" and SD70ACe #8444 trail the big Northern as it takes the special's 18 cars into the Columbia River Gorge for the run to Pendleton.

The train will spend the next three days on display in downtown Pendleton as part of the 100th anniversary festivities for the Pendleton Roundup.
