The Boston-New York shoreline express is coming off the connector the Boston and Providence built to join its original main line to the Providence & Worcester (the staight route). The tower at Boston Switch (SS 156) was built at the east end of the line relocation of 1916 while Woodlawn Tower (SS 154) was built at the west end. At Boston Switch the double tracks of the B&P and P&W became a four-track road into Providence. This picture shows a simplfied track arrangement which required trains to use crossovers to reach the Worcester route. The earlier arrangement used a crossing to move trains across the bisecting routes. I shot this from the Ashley Street bridge (Central Falls, RI) which was built as part of the line relocation.
