Abandoned

After Conrail went away, Providence & Worcester ran a couple of freights though the hole, but the track was so bad, I was told by a P&W officer, they crept at 2 mph. The freight railroad gave up. The return on investment, if they sank big bucks into rehabbing the line, simply wouldn't be worth it. The tunnel and Seekonk River draw were abandoned. The weeds took over, and the track reverted to the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations.
