New York, Ontario & Western RR: Merrickville, NY

Before the Northfield Tunnel was opened in 1891, the O&W had a switchback line. It had 1 switchback at Northfield and two switchbacks at Merrickville.

This is the switchback line near the north portal. Water has flooded the grade. Trains would be headed to Northfield through here.
