Western NY & Pennsylvania Olean, NYWNYP RS-3m number 406 has received a number of upgrades and repairs while in the WNYP shop, such as, ditch lights, camera/DVR and alerter systems added, MU system restored, all engine and electrical systems checked, water and oil leaks repaired, wheels trued, window glazing upgraded to FRA Type II, turbo repaired, unit repainted, renumbered and lettered.

<BR>This unit began life in September of 1952 at the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) in Schenectady, NY as Delaware & Hudson model RS-3 number 4112, one of 31 such units owned by the D&H. Its frame number was 80312 and it was built with a model 244 12-cylinder, 1600 h.p. engine. In 1975 it was shipped to Morrison-Knudsen in Boise, ID where it was rebuilt along with seven of its sister units into a model RS-3m upgraded to 2000 h.p. with a model; 251 12-cylinder engine. It returned to the D&H in March of 1976 as number 1976, one of two D&H units in red, white and blue bicentennial garb. Some years after the bicentennial it was renumbered to its proper series as the D&H 506. It was subsequently became the Tioga Central 506, then Wellsboro & Corning 506 and found its way to the WNYP in October 2014.
