Amazing with steam power and changing engines in New Haven, schedules were pretty comparable to current day Amtrak Northeast Regional service.

I had not realized that there was a considerable grade here.Up until the 30s, there was a Track 4 to be used by slower freights to get out of t he way of passenger trains. I recall taking pictures of some pretty fast passenger trains coming down this Hill. Sharon Public Library has a picture of an I-5 on a test run (from Readville?)in 1938. At that time there was a tower standing there. See: https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/thenhrhtanewhavenrailroadforum/viewtopic.php?p=92359#p92359

I think that test photo of an I-5 running light is at Sharon Hill, at the top of the grade between Sharon and East Foxborough stations.

CORRECTION - I should have said "Sharon Heights", SS-171.
