A summer afternoon in 1958 at Waverly NY/Sayre PA - 2

Less than 2 miles away from the Lehigh's Sayre depot was the DL&W's South Waverly PA depot. At 3:52 pm DL&W E8 814 is ready to depart west for Buffalo with train #3, the westbound Phoebe Snow.

Net: back in 1958, the 10,000 souls of the Waverly/Sayre -metro area had 2 choices to ride the rails to Buffalo operating about 30 minutes apart...but Phoebe Snow offered newer lightweight equipment. Also note that LV offered 3 train pairs on the NY-Buffalo route while DL&W fielded 4 pairs. Those were the days! Picture taken by my father.

Photographed by John Barlow, 1958.
