Riding Car on the New York Central in 1951New York State digital archives has > 2,000 hi-res .TIFF image files taken by Fairchild Aerial Surveys in the mid-20th century. Related to Bruce Nelson's 12/29/23 posting of a NYC riding car, here is a crop of a Fairchild Aerial photo taken in 1951 of the Lipe-Rollway ball bearing factory on the west side of Syracuse NY showing a westbound NYC mail & express train on the passenger line. This train had at least 26 cars and may have been pulled by a steam locomotive and had a Boston & Albany lettered riding coach on the rear. Also note the NYC freight train behind the mail train that is running on the freight bypass around Syracuse (today's CSX main line).
