MBTA Rail Train at North Leominster

Following a short distance behind the McCourt Construction fiber optic cable laying train was the MBTA rail train that I guess was taking advantage of the cable laying track curfew to drop sections of new rail for spot replacement? Given the rail on the Fitchburg line in this area is reasonably new 115 lb rail, it's not clear to me why sections of rail need to replaced but better safe than sorry!

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

Gandy dancers toss the rail off the flats? This is probably in case sections of rail are damaged in a wreck or derailment.
