Three of DL&W's twelve 2,400 hp Fairbanks Morse Trainmasters speed a westbound freight through Owego in the summer of 1959, a few months before the Lackawanna moved all its trains off home rails between Johnson City NY and Corning NY in favor of using 75 miles of trackage rights over the parallel Erie mainline. And, of course, a little over a year from this capture the two RRs would become one in October 1960. Picture was taken by my father (but I would like to believe I was standing next to him!). #854 was part of the initial batch of 10 TMs delivered in 1953. Interestingly, given FM's expertise in supplying marine propulsion, the TM used the 38 8-1/8 two stroke, opposed piston diesel engine that had been used to power the USN's WWII submarines.
