Visitor Comments about this Photo:Alan, are double stack wells now going through the Hoosac? Didn’t think that was possible. Posted by Chris Brown on 2023-03-30 19:33:52 Chris, there are two types of double stacks. I think they are called international and domestic (not sure), this the lower of the two. They just fit in the tunnel. Posted by Alan LaPierre on 2023-03-30 22:49:38 A nice capture of train and setting. Good to learn that full stack of any kind can fit Hoosac. Because highway and weights/clearances are often restrictive in foreign countries, international container traffic is pretty much 40 foot and 20-foot boxes. Domestic is usually based on 53-foot containers. Posted by Ken Patton on 2023-03-31 16:12:16 Domestic 53' boxes can be both taller and wider than those in international service. There has been a move to rebuild intermediate size stack car bays of 45 or 48 feet, to either 40- or 53-foot foot length. Posted by Ken Patton on 2023-03-31 16:27:01 Because the mounting/connector post locations 40 or 53 containers on a train can be intermixed, if need be.
