NA-1 517 @ River Road Bridge in Bow

From a perfect late December day, here was the NA-1 Crew taking 517, 9 loads, and 1 empty north to Concord. 4 loads of telephone poles are in this consist, much needed after the recent storms before Christmas. They just finished spotting two loads at Coastal Lumber in Bow.

While many of the 500's have been through Bow quite regularly over the years, for example 502, 503, 504, 509, & 515. A 517 appearance has been virtually non existent until this year. This is the second time around for the former 1976 built CN 9660 (GP40-2w) in December 2022 on these NH Rails.

517 is notable for it's earlier pre-2010 version of the Pan Am paint. The engineer's side Pan Am lettering leans to the left. The big (faded) American flag is on the short hood, the road number under the cab window is larger in size.. 516 and 506 are painted the exact same way, though 506 got a Pan Am "Meatball" logo applied on the nose along the way.

We'll see what 2023 brings, and it's still great to catch the surviving Pan Am & Guilford EMD/GMD painted road power in action.
