CSRX 216 by the Gateway, Carroll NH

With fall foliage at it's peak in color, here was an eastbound Mountaineer Train heading for home base in North Conway. The Mountaineer made a stop at Crawford Station to pick up some passengers who chose to take in the great scenery and weather, instead of continuing west to Fabyan Station where the runaround took place.

CSRX 216, a GP35, was built new as Norfolk & Western 1328 in March of 1965.1328 was the last GP35 N&W ordered. It was sold to Guilford in May 1993 and became Springfield Terminal 216. Traded to Conway Scenic in the Spring of 2010, along with B&M 252 (originally MEC 252) the trailing engine in this picture for Conway Scenic's 2 prized FP9 "Sisters" which became PAR 1 & PAR 2.

216 is a true high short hood survivor out of 14 high short hooded GP35's & 12 high short hooded GP40s, all with N&W heritage, that were acquired by Guildford/Pan Am. Out of this group, all but 216 were eventually retired and scrapped by the end of 2020.

Thank you, my first choice was by the Gateway shed just behind me, but that was all shadows so picked this spot as I had to do something. I guess you can tell I am a fan of 216 ! :)
