MEC Work Train or Local from a 1960's Winter

MEC 579 (GP7) leads what I believe to be a westbound work train, or perhaps a local freight moving the work equipment, during either the winder 0f 1966-67 or 1967-68. My first impression, reinforced by the US 1 sign above the cut near the left edge of the picture, is that this train is headed from Brunswick toward Portland, probably between Brunswick and Freeport, though a look on Google Maps has not found a location to suit either of the 2 photos I have of this train. MEC 579 retained B&M maroon paint until it had a nose job and received yellow paint in 1980 or 81.
If anyone viewing this image recognizes the location in either of my photos of this train, please let me know. I found the negative in an envelope with no lettereing and the 1960's were quite a while back for recalling all details.
