That's really a D&H caboose...

As Chicolini said in Duck Soup, "Well, who ya gonna believe me or your own eyes?" It's mid-April 1976, a few weeks after Conrail was created and an expanded D&H is trying to make a competitive go at it. This is the tail end of the D&H's former Lehigh Valley/N&W jointly operated pig train, the Apollo departing Bison Yard in Buffalo. D&H acquired many LV (and Reading) GPs and cabooses to facilitate the growth in its operations.

Photographed by John Barlow, April, 1976.
