Erie Lackawanna Phebe Snow at Conklin

The Erie Lackawanna Pheoebe Snow is passing under us at a highway bridge in Conklin, NY on fine summer day in 1963. Two EMD E units are leading this beautiful southbound train. Notice that the photographer was just a few seconds too late for the nose shot.

Terrific picture! It's interesting that "Erie Lackawanna" is so off-center on the baggage car. EL had a # of un-repainted DL&W MUs that simply had "Erie" stenciled in front of the "Lackawanna" resulting in off-center lettering. I've seen pictures of a DL&W baggage car (a couple still survive today) and the "Lackawanna" lettering took up the whole space between the doors - there would be no way to squeeze in "Erie". So it looks like the EL paint shop just decided to right-justify "Erie Lackawanna"!
