Have you explored this line in Sudbury?

There is approximatly 3 inches between the base flanges of those rails. Fifty (+-) years ago a seed lodged in the ballast between the rails and a seedlig sprouted in safe wet protective place. This disproves the all to common delusion tha trees grow from the base up! If that was true the rails be twenty feet off the ground !!

Stephen Demboske yes; I have poked around the diamond at South Sudbury, but have not walked very much of the ROW.

Years ago I walked the ROW with my sleeping bag, leaving Wayland in the early morning and walking past the Sudbury diamond, then on toward Hudson. I spent the night in the woods next to the ROW. I was looking for branches and sidings that still existed, such as the Marlborough branch and the branch that went up to the military base north of the ROW. I don't recall seeing the remnants of the Marlborough branch but there was evidence of the old military camp. I got picked up in Hudson the next day, it was well-populated there so I didn't go further along the route. Although I could not do it now, I explored a lot of ROW's this way, camping out along the way in isolated spots, Never had a problem, and I often went with my son.
