Eastbound SP Freight on Old Rio Grande at Red Cliff, CO

SSW 8375 (SD40T-2), SP 8491 (SD40T-2),and a 3rd Espee tunnel motor lead an eastbound freight upgrade through the canyon of the Eagle River at Red Cliff, CO as it climbs from Minturn toward Tennessee Pass and the highest crossing of the Continental Divide on a U.S. railroad at the time. Notice that a passing track is tying back into the mainline under about the 4th car behind the locomotives. For most of its length, the passing siding is on the opposite side of the Eagle River from the mainline.

Beautiful shot Warren, the black & white works well here. Very nostalgic looking.
