CP Auto rack local at VoorheesvilleA short CP local out of Kenwood Yard Albany trundles down the remains of the ex-D&H Albany Main after crossing the Conrail Selkirk Branch main at Voorheesville. The local comprises loaded a handful of auto racks headed for an unload facility at Guilderland, about a mile away. By June 2000, after flooding disabled a bridge over Normans Kill (Dutch for creek) near Kenwood Yard, this operation was changed to run from Delanson and the diamond was removed by CSX. What is significant about this low quality scan of a color shifted print from 20+ years ago is that the line is expected to get a re-birth in 2021 as NS has applied to the STB for trackage rights over CSX from this point east to Worcester/Ayer as part of CSX's planned acquisition of Pan Am. NS lengthy 22K/23K container trains will use the RoW where the switch is to access the CSX Selkirk line. 22K/23 will be able to be double stacked and will save 3 hours in each direction running to/from Ayer. Transaction expected to close this year. Exciting times!
