VIA Rail departs west from Toronto

An eclectic power duo of GMD freight GP40 (geared for 65mph) plus MLW passenger FPB2 (geared for 83mph) leads a westbound passenger train likely bound for Windsor, ONT into the setting sun. I don't know the date of this capture but given that a small piece of a Turboliner painted in the blue and yellow livery of Via Rail is visible at the upper left, it must have been some time between 1977 (the year Via was spun off from CN) and 1981 (when the lead unit, CN GP40 4016 was renumbered to 9316).

Photographed by John Barlow, 1977.

One of very few images where a B-unit is the star.
