EL U25B leads wb freight at Smithboro at sunset

A pair of U25Bs haul a manifest west at Smithboro NY. The track to the left is the Lehigh's Auburn branch that largely parallels the EL between east of Waverly to Owego. In the '70s, the EL featured about 30 daily freights and LV's Auburn Branch carried 6 or so freights, including the D&H and LV interchange turns between Sayre and Binghamton. Today this line is the NS Southern Tier which hosts only 6 daily freights with 4 of those trains being lengthy land barges.
