Amtrak Train 174 Arriving Kingston Station with AMTK 118

AMTK 118 (P42DC) leads AMTK 667 (ACS-64) with both pans down and the 7 cars of train 174 into Kingston Station. According to the schedule board in the station, this was the sole eastbound train thru Kingston today as Isaiah wreaked havoc with Northeast Corridor schedules east of New York.

Umm dumb question- why would they even couple an electric motor behind the diesel if trees had downed catenary and made an electric useless??

I suspect the reason the 667 is along is that Amtrak expected 9or maybe just hoped) that the power would be back when this trainset returned west out of Boston and would need an ACS-64 to pull it. i believe the diesels have a lower top speed than the ACS-64's. At any rate they find it difficult to maintain the schedules laid out for electric locomotives. 174 here as nearly 15 minutes late into Kingston.
