By this date, SP's Alcos were relegated to yard service at various terminals. This pair was working a transfer run from West Colton yard to Old Colton yard. At the latter point the cars would be set out to be picked up by ATSF or UP. For a brief season in the mid 1960s, C-628s held an edge in horsepower, compared to other 6 axel units. An admiration, which began on the D&H in 1964, ended with this photographer's only look at Alcos, working on any of the big roads serving Southern California.
