An August 1976 evening at Wayneport, NYIn this 1976, it's impossible to discern what important mainline facilities the New York Central once operated in the steam and early diesel era. Wayneport was not only the where the mainline and West Shore line used to bypass Rochester connected but it was also site of a mainline coaling station and reefer icing station that was used into the PC era. Not much evidence of these facilities remain as can be seen. From left to right: the New York State Barge Canal; a wb U29B led Conrail road local that left its train on main 1 at the far left is fetching a box car from the West Shore; and a manifest led by a pair of SD35s rumbles east on main 2.
