Oh, what a place to have lived!

This memorial stands trackside at the Willey Brook Bridge (see last posting), where the Mount Willard Section Dwelling once stood. Hattie Evans was widowed here with four children, after her husband was struck and killed by a MEC steamer, drifting silently down the famous grade towards Bartlett. There was even a small baseball diamond on the property for fun! Maine Central trains and crew slowed here enough to "scoop up" the children for school!

Photographed by John A. Taylor, September 27, 1997.
Added to the photo archive by John A. Taylor, June 6, 2020.
Railroad: Conway Scenic.
