Westbound BNSF Intermodal at Scholle, NM Before Double Track

BNSF 736 (Dash 9-40CW) leads a 2-unit intermodal train onto the old single track line through Abo Canyon on the old Santa Fe southern route mainline east of Belen, NM. BNSF continued to use up Santa Fe's stock of warbonnet red paint until that paint was gone. The 736 is listed on Heritage Units as still wearing this paint today, so 20 years or so after this photo. Photo from late 90's or early 2000's, before any double tracking work had started in Abo Canyon. The switch at Scholle was just east of the US 60 overpass.
