NJ Transit Train 1001 Arriving in Glen Ridge

NJT 4212 (GP40PH-2B) leads train 1001 (Hoboken to Dover) to its stop in Glen Ridge. The train will use the Lackawanna's Montclair branch to its next stop in Montclair, then it will follow the Erie's Greenwood Lake branch to Mountain View, where it will return to for Lackawanna track on the Boonton branch to reach the Lackawanna mainline at Denville and then proceed west to the next station in Dover. The Boonton branch was cut east of Mountain View in the early 1960's and trains used the Greenwood Lake branch to a connection near West End tower that allowed access to Hoboken. In 2002 the Montclair connection allowed the present routing over the former Lackawanna Montclair branch to Newark and then on to Hoboken. The former Erie Greenwood lake branch had its own station at Glen Ridge about 6 blocks from here. That station still stands beside a single track remainder of the Greenwood Lake branch's former double track line. That line looked to be in surprisingly good shape on Jan.30th; I don't know when it was last used.
