UP at Palm Springs - before double track

This is a scan of a print whose date of capture I don't recall - it must have been after the UP's 1995 acquisition of SP but before the 2008 double tracking through the Palm Springs area. Anyway an ex-SP speed lettered SD45 leads a GP of some sort eastbound.

Photographed by John Barlow.

Railroad: Union Pacific.

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

"Hedges" of Tamarisk trees were planted and maintained to protect desert rights of way, especially the ballast, from filling up with wind driven "blow sand".
