Readville

Even at this late date, Readville was a pretty interesting place to watch trains. In this view we are looking north as a switch job led by an RS-11 is crossing over the main line. The station was a bilevel structure to serve both passenger trains leaving via the Midland (current MBTA Fairmount Line) and the main line below. At this time the station building was not being used for its original purpose and it later burned down.

I did a double-take when your caption indicated this was the "main line!" That track looks very long in the tooth!. Now it's three tracks (with two using concrete ties) under catenary with NEC trains passing through at 90mph(?) and the through truss bridge is now a sky-blue painted girder bridge. This is one of those rare RR scene shots where it can be said things are much better today! Great capture!
