Best Seat In The House

A New Haven engineer hams it up for this photographer at one of the stops of a steam excursion on the New Haven sponsored by F Nelson Blount. The 127 may have been Nelson's toy, and he was a qualified engineer, but you needed a full-time railroad man who knew the route and could operate the engine. This man, wearing the old school hat and jumper (I wish I knew his name) no doubt had the seniority to bid for the job as well as the old skills as a steam man. I think he was on a number of RRE enthusiasts excursions on obscure old New Haven trackage because he was probably qualified for most of the road.
