Brakeman With Billy

Don't remember the exact situation here but it appears as if the engineer with the jaunty driver's cap has coupled on to a pickup on the South Track in Ayer and will then have the brakeman swing down at the main line switch and pull his train ahead so the brakeman can attach the billy. I may be wrong about the exact goings on here, but I like this nice well-lit morning shot and the crew members at work.

This is what makes your photos special and timeless and classic—people. Unless you’re the Black Mesa & Lake Powell, it’s tough to run a railroad without’em. And they just went out of business
