Westbound NJ Transit Train Approaching Glen Ridge, NJ

NJTR 7029 (Multi-Level cab car) leads train 6263 out of Penn Station, NY as it approaches its stop in Glen Ridge, NJ. Train is propelled from the rear by NJTR 4612 (ALP-46). If there is a pattern to the placement of the electric locomotives on Montclair branch trains I could not discern it. Most of the Penn Station trains seemed to have it on the west end, but here it is on the east end, as it was on the 1 Hoboken train I saw.

Visitor Comments about this Photo:

I wonder if the apparent variation of engine placement on NJT Midtown Direct trains to/from Penn Station has to do with inbound NJT trains that use the through tracks at NYP (ie, tracks 6-12), as opposed to the stub end tracks (1-5), and then continue through the East River tunnels to Sunnyside Yard Queens to be staged as subsequent outbound trains via use of the balloon tracks? So if a locomotive leads inbound to NYP it will also lead outbound heading for NJ.
