Midday MU Local Laying Over at Bay St., Montclair, NJ

High Roof Trailer 4312 (nee EL 3312, originally DLW 2312) sits at the west end of a mid-day local at the new Bay St. station in Monsclair, NJ that replaced the old Lackawanna terminal in Montclair earlier in 1981. The old station once included 6 stub-ended tracks, but during the 1960's a spring switch (or similar device) was installed allowing westbound trains on track 1 to access station track 1, then return east on track 2, allowing Montclair tower to be closed. During the mid 1960's 3 trains a night lay over at Montclair (I'm thinking on tracks 3, 4, and 5 but I may not be remembering accurately, I worked a week or 2 second trick at Montclair during the summer of 1965). The mid-day trains were 4 cars by 1981 because the 50+ year-old MU's were not as reliable as they used to be. The consisted of 1 2-car set (power car and trailer) during for many years.
