Westbound MU at Lackawanna Station, Glen Ridge, NJ

A westbound set of 50+-year-old MU cars approaches the Glen Ridge, NJ station on the old DL&W Montclair branch. By 1981 these trains were operated by Conrail, subsidized by the state of New Jersey. Many of the cars, including the lead trailer here, were still wearing paint applied by the DL&W before the 1960 merger with the Erie. Cars in DL&W paint were easily recognizable; the name Lackawanna was still centered on the letterboard and the Erie name fit into the space to the left, leaving the full name uncentered.
