Eastbound EF-4s at Devon, CT.

Pairs of GE E-33s proved useful on freight between Cedar Hill, CT and the New York terminals. They fit the electrified zone's unique demands of grade, speed, tonnage and traffic, to keep "good sized" trains moving at "decent" speeds. The 300s were equipped to allow two units to be powered, using the pantograph on one of them. Two pantographs raised, usually meant a hard pull or heavy weather. Penn Central chose to remove the "power sharing" hardware on top of the ends of the long hoods.
