If you look closely you can see the square bulge on the long hood , meaning they have or had steam generators for passenger car heat.

Bulges on long hood housed train lighting equipment. Steam boilers were located in the short hood of early GP's. Boiler exhaust stack can be seen on the roof of the 1575.
