A westbound Penn Central freight behind a long string of EMD and GE power passes the SD40 assigned to B&A helper duty outside the North Adams Junction yard office in Pittsfield, MA. This was also the location of the makeshift passenger station that would be vacated in a couple weeks when the coming of Amtrak temporarily ended passenger service between Springfield and Albany.

Photographed by Tom Nelligan, April, 1971.
