Northbound Vermonter Approaching Its Bellows Falls Stop

AMTK 4 (P42DC) leads Amtrak train 54, the northbound weekend Vermonter, off the bridge across the Bellows Falls Canal and into the curve that leads to its stop at the dept. Brush along this portion of the old platform was too thick to allow a better angle for this shot.

Neat picture! I assume that's a speed limit sign on the right - hard to believe that max speed heading south through the tunnel and across Mill St is 55mph for passenger trains! Of course after making the station stop at BF, it will take a fair distance for the southbound Vermonter to attain that speed.

The southbound Vermonter left Bellows Falls quite slowly; more like 10 mph than 55 mph. Perhaps the engineer did not believe that sign either. I was a bit shocked at the 55 mph limit as well when I saw this sign. Given the roller coaster ride from the lowered tunnel floor to the unlowerable bridge over the Bellows Falls Canal, it would be quite an adventure to pass thru at anything close to 55 mph, I would think.
