Valley RR in Old Saybrook

The inaugural run of the Valley Railroad's short-lived Amtrak connecting service between Essex and Old Saybrook awaits passengers behind 2-8-0 97. The gate in the foreground would be opened by the Amtrak agent/operator when passengers could safely cross the tracks to or from the VRR train. Unfortunately, patronage did not meet expectations and this service didn't last too long.
