before there was a "Seaport District"

This is now some of Boston's most expensive real estate with no trace of rail activity, but in 1971 this part of South Boston accommodated Penn Central's former New Haven freight terminal and a scrap metal dealer. The view is looking south from the former Northern Avenue bridge. The string of CN and CV boxcars delivered newsprint to the Globe and Herald, both of which got their paper by rail.
